Change We Can Believe In?

It is interesting watching political campains to see what thoughts, ideas, ect., catch the public's attention. This year everyone seems to be caught up in the idea of "change", often without taking the time to study what kind of "change" they are talking about. Too often the church mimics the world in the same way. Christians, & especially, it seems, evangelicals, get caught up in the next "new thing" that is going to catch people's attention. New music, new entertainment, new buildings, big screens, home churches, cell groups, ways to build your self-esteem, new diets, how to be "blessed for success" ect. blah, blah, blah. Why is it we want to offer the lost anything but the gospel to try to draw them in? Is it because we have so little faith in the power of the gospel message? Or do our egos lead us to believe we have some special "gift" we can use to draw them in & then eventually we will get around to sharing the gospel with them? Mark Dever, in his book Building Your Ministry on the Gospel wrote,"What you win them with, is likely what you will win them to." What are we winning them to? Did Jesus say, "Try to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature and if you can't do that, keep them entertained."? It is time we got our priorities in order. Sharing the gospel must be first & formost in every ministry we do or we are nothing more than egotistical social workers storing up for ourselves treasures on earth rather than in heaven.
