The government is considering putting GPS systems in all cars as a way to tax you for every mile you drive no matter how fuel efficient your car is. This would also be a great way for them to know when and where you are driving all the time. All this under the guise of keeping your highways serviced. Last fall, Congress transferred $8 billion from the general treasury to the highway trust fund to make up for a shortfall between revenue and money promised to states for highway projects. Last week, Transportaion Secretary Ray LaHood said in an interview with the Associated Press that a vehicle-miles-traveled tax was an idea that should be considered to shore up the trust fund. The National Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing Commission report recommends moving to such a tax, which would mean equipping cars and trucks with a device that uses Orwellian GPS technology to track the number of miles driven and compute the tax owed. The amount could be adjusted to charge more for travel during peak traffic hours or if you are going to one of those secret church meetings like they have in China. You would never be able to drive anywhere without them knowing it. But then we love Big Brother.

I knew that the idea has been batted around D.C. to tax the miles a person has driven but I did not know how they would keep track of each persons milage. Wow!!! This is how freedoms are taken away in a sneaky way. Well Kevin we should not be surprised we are talking about the world.
